Why are microbial filters installed in biosafety cabinets?

In some biosafety cabinets, HEPA filters can be used independently or in combination with fan filter units (FFUs).
What is a Hepa filter or microbial filter?
HEPA filter is an abbreviation for High Efficiency Particulate Air filter.
Hepa microbial filters consist of very small synthetic fibers with a fiber diameter of only 0.2 to 2 µm, arranged randomly in layers to form a multi-layered filter.
The synthetic fibers used to produce Hepa filters combine to effectively filter out dust, bacteria, pollen, and mold with a diameter of 0.3 µm (micrometers). And PM2.5 dust particles (2.5 micrometers) are much larger than PM0.3 particles.
Standards for Hepa filters – microbial filters used for biosafety cabinets:
Typically, filters used for biosafety cabinets require a cleanliness level from H13 to U15. Specifically, HEPA H13 filters, HEPA H14 filters, or ULPA filters are commonly used today.
HEPA microbial filters for biosafety cabinets are usually specially designed to remove the finest dust particles, meeting the most stringent performance standards. Ensuring a high dust filtration efficiency of >= 99.97% for 0.3-micron particles. For the H13 standard, the required efficiency is from 99.97% to 99.99%. And for HEPA H14 filters, the filtration level reaches a higher requirement of greater than or equal to 99.995%.
The standard dimensions for biosafety cabinet filters are a thickness of 69mm, 70mm, a standard level of 90mm, 115mm, and 124mm for Mini pleat HEPA filters. Separator-type filters have a higher filter thickness from 150mm to 292mm.
