If you have ever visited factories that produce electronic components, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, etc., you have probably passed through a room or chamber that blows air from one or more directions. That is an Air shower. So, what is an Air shower, what is its structure and operating principle? We will explore this in detail in this article.
An Air shower is a device used to blow off dust and other contaminants from people, vehicles, and objects when moving into a cleanroom area. Like other fan filter units and HEPA filters, Air showers are an indispensable part of a cleanroom.

1. What is an Air shower?
What is an Air shower? An Air shower, also known as an airlock or buffer chamber, is a device installed between a dirty room and a cleanroom.
In other words, an Air shower is a buffer chamber when you move from the outside environment into a cleanroom environment.

The function of an Air shower is to clean and remove contaminants from people, equipment, and raw materials before entering the cleanroom.
In addition, Air shower equipment can also be equipped with devices to strictly control the number of people entering and exiting to ensure that the cleanroom always meets cleanroom standards.
2. How does an Air shower work?
The operating principle focuses on creating a high-velocity clean air stream, generating air pressure inside, ensuring air circulation, directing the air flow in a closed environment, and delivering the air flow to the air filtration system.
The design of the air nozzles directly affects the amount of air delivered and the direction of the air flow in the air shower. The air velocity when the air shower is operating is usually adjusted to 20-25 m/s.
When personnel or goods move from the outside into the Air shower, the air nozzles installed on the walls of this chamber are activated by a motion sensor.
At this time, the system starts, and clean air flows from the pre-filter to the static pressure box and the HEPA filter, and is blown out through the high-velocity nozzles to remove dust and impurities from the person or raw materials passing through.

After the pre-set air blowing time has elapsed, the rear door opens for personnel and goods to enter the cleanroom to work.
The air flow is then drawn back through the floor grilles, returned to the pre-filter, and the process is repeated, circulating back into the Air shower chamber.
3. What does the Air shower chamber design consist of?
Air shower chamber design materials:
♦ These chambers can be made of galvanized steel, electrostatic powder-coated steel, or stainless steel. Often, high standards require the design to be 100% stainless steel 304 or stainless steel 304 inside and electrostatic powder-coated steel outside.
♦ Using cold-rolled steel with anti-rust electrostatic powder coating or stainless steel. Combined with stainless steel air nozzles, ensuring the product is rust-proof and highly corrosion-resistant for long-term use.
♦ In addition, if customers have requirements for other materials, MIGCO will also design and manufacture as required.
♦ The interior will be equipped with HEPA H13 filters (H13 standard) to filter and produce clean air
♦ Depending on the number of people entering frequently at a time, there will be Air Shower types with corresponding design sizes and standards.
♦ There are types that allow continuous passage without stopping (tunnel model). There can be 1-way and 2-way types (based on the direction of personnel movement)
♦ The viewing window of the Air shower is made of tempered glass for clear visibility and safety during use.
♦ LED lighting system provides high brightness in the chamber and saves electricity and operating costs.
Air Shower door design
♦ Air shower doors are designed with an interlock system (only one door can be opened at a time) to prevent the risk of outside air entering the cleanroom.
♦ And to prevent cross-contamination from rooms with different functions and cleanliness levels. Elegant design, easy to open and close, dust-resistant, and easy to clean.
♦ The door system can be customized based on customer needs.
♦ Air shower design is modular, so customers can easily move and install it quickly.
♦ Carts can easily pass through the air chamber thanks to the intelligently designed floor.
♦ A display screen shows the blowing time and function keys to turn on/off lights and fans.
♦ And an emergency stop button is used in case of an accident or fire.
♦ An indispensable part of the Air shower chamber is the perfect and modern control system. It integrates a system of indicator lights for the door status and displays various parameters, making the device convenient and easy to use.
♦ In addition, you can also request us to install a UV laser light to completely destroy bacteria and germs.
4. Applications of Air showers:
Air showers are used in various manufacturing plants such as: electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food, and confectionery.
Air showers are used in hospitals, laboratories, veterinary medicine, artificial intelligence production, and high-tech industries.
